Shopify · Measure

Every Shopify order in Apex, with real profit on each one. Bring in every order, with the cost you already keep per product.

Connect Shopify and every order arrives the moment it is placed. Apex credits each sale to the experiment, email, ad, or partner behind it, and fills in the product cost you already keep so profit is real, not just revenue.

No credit card to start.

What teams use it for

The questions people actually ask.

  • Which experiment, email, or ad actually brought in this sale?

Each Shopify order arrives with its buyer, so Apex joins it to what that person saw and clicked before buying. The sale is credited to the experiment version, email, ad, or partner behind it, and experiments are judged on that revenue rather than on clicks.

  • My checkout doesn't send cost on every order. Can I still see gross profit?

Yes, for the products Shopify has a cost on. Apex fills orders that reported no cost from the catalog, all-or-nothing per order: if one item on the order has no catalog cost, the order stays cost-unknown rather than reporting a partial cost as a full one. The channel falls back to revenue-based LTV:CAC, which is a complete answer on its own.

  • How do I tell a cost I reported from a cost Apex filled in?

Every order records which basis produced its cost, stamped when the order was written rather than decided at read time. Reported-only is the default comparison basis, and catalog-filled cost appears as its own labeled line, so the coverage figure never quietly counts a fill as a report.

  • A supplier raised our cost. Will Apex explain the change?

Each cost change appends a dated entry with the source and actor that set it. When gross profit steps on a particular day, the history says whether a cost changed then — instead of leaving someone to explain the step as a supplier change months later when nobody remembers.

What flows in

What Apex receives from Shopify.

From Shopify

  • Every order as it is placed, with line items, totals, and discounts
  • The buyer's name and email, so each order joins the right person
  • Per-variant unit cost from the inventory item
  • Product and variant names with their SKUs
  • A dated history entry for every cost change

What it powers

Where this data shows up.

  • Intelligence

Revenue and gross profit per channel, experiment, and partner, measured on the orders Shopify actually recorded.

  • Experiments

Experiments are judged on the sales each version brought in, not just on clicks.

  • Communications

A purchase can start an Adaptive Journey the moment it happens, such as a thank-you or a follow-up on what they bought.

Connect Shopify.

Connect in one click by installing Apex's Shopify app, which asks to read your products, inventory, orders, and customers. If you'd rather not install an app, create a custom app in your Shopify admin with the same read access and paste its Admin API token into Apex.

FAQ

Shopify and Apex, answered.

  • What does Apex read from my Shopify store?

Products, inventory, orders, and the customers on those orders. Apex only reads. It never changes your products, prices, or orders. A customer's name and email are used to join each order to the right person and to address the emails you send them.

  • How quickly do orders show up?

The moment the order is placed. Shopify tells Apex about each new order as it happens, and a regular sync catches anything a live delivery missed.

  • Do I have to install an app?

No. One-click install is the quickest path. If you'd rather not install an app, create a custom app inside your own Shopify admin with read access to products, inventory, orders, and customers, and paste its Admin API token into Apex.

  • Will Apex apply today's cost to last year's orders?

No. A cost only fills orders dated on or after the date it took effect. Shopify's unit cost carries no history, so an initial sync applies from the sync forward only. If you know what a product cost earlier, you can set that date explicitly through the Apex API and the older orders fill in.

  • What if a product has no cost filled in on Shopify?

An empty cost is treated as unknown, not zero. Treating it as zero would report a 100% margin on every uncosted product, which is the flattering kind of wrong that nobody questions. Products with no cost show up as your coverage gaps on the products page.

  • How often does the cost sync run?

Daily, and on demand from the connector page. A standing product cost changes when a supplier price changes, so daily is already far more often than the number moves. A sync that finds the same cost appends no history entry, which keeps the real changes visible.
